Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced on Thursday, May 14, 2026, his support for activating Parliament and forming the new government.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the dual carriageway 40-meter road project in Soran, Barzani stressed the importance of activating state institutions, saying: “We have always supported having active government and parliamentary institutions that deal responsibly with the views of the people of Kurdistan.”
The Prime Minister noted that the elections were held so that people could place their trust in political parties to carry out their responsibilities sincerely, adding: “From day one, we supported the activation of Parliament and the swift formation of the government because it serves the people of Kurdistan and the political parties themselves.”
In response to a question about relations with the federal government, Masrour Barzani emphasized the need to implement the constitution, stating: “We demand that the constitution be implemented as it is, that the rights of the people of Kurdistan not be violated, and that services be provided equally throughout Iraq. A solid program must also be established to resolve the existing problems and obstacles.”
