The Barzani Charity Foundation has launched a new project to begin constructing 20 houses designated for widows and orphaned children in the northern district, with the aim of supporting the stabilization and rehabilitation of the region after it was devastated by ISIS in August 2014.

Shiro Bir Simo, the Director of the Sinjar branch of the Barzani Charity Foundation, stated to SAMA Media Agency on Thursday, March 6, 2025: “The construction of 20 houses for widows and orphans in the (Burk) complex and (Hardan) village in the northern district has started as the first step toward restoring stability in the area. Two houses have already been completed, one of which has been handed over, and the other will be completed and handed over soon. Families were selected based on an evaluation of the most needy families through the foundation’s specific form.”

Simo explained that the Barzani Charity Foundation aims, through this project, to provide a stable and safe environment for widows and orphaned children. He added that these efforts are part of the foundation’s strategy to support devastated areas, including Sinjar, and enhance community cohesion. He also mentioned that the foundation is working in the displacement camps in Dohuk to rehabilitate families and orphaned children to ensure their dignified return to their original homes.

Since 2016, the Barzani Charity Foundation has been working in Sinjar, providing humanitarian services and support, including health and psychological assistance for all community groups, especially children suffering from psychological disorders. It has also implemented many projects in the region in coordination with international and local entities to ensure the sustainability of its projects for returning families in Sinjar.
