Barzani, Iraqi PM Discuss Political Developments, Baghdad-Erbil Relations

Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met on Saturday with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani in Pirmam to discuss political developments and bilateral relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

According to a statement from Barzani’s office, the two leaders exchanged views on the current political situation in Iraq, as well as recent developments at both the regional and national levels.

They stressed the importance of coordination among Iraqi political parties to confront ongoing challenges and crises. The need for dialogue and cooperation was highlighted as a means to resolve outstanding issues.

The meeting also addressed relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi federal government, amid ongoing negotiations over budget allocations, oil exports, and constitutional disputes.

The visit comes at a time when Baghdad and Erbil are working to ease tensions and improve cooperation following a series of political and financial disagreements.
