Prince Hazim Tahsin Said (Prince of the Ezidis in Iraq and the world, and Head of the Ezidi Supreme Spiritual Council) attended the opening ceremony of the U.S. Consulate in Erbil. The event was attended by many high-ranking political and religious figures.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Prince met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Michael Regas.
Mr. Michael Regas affirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting religious freedoms, stating that nothing is more valuable to the United States than religious freedom. He emphasized that the U.S. will continue to lead strongly in protecting religious freedoms around the world, and that there is a shared interest in safeguarding the rights of religious and ethnic minorities in Iraq.
He also addressed the Ezidi issue, noting that the United States remains committed to supporting the Ezidi community for the suffering they endured during ISIS’s occupation of their areas.
