His Highness Prince Hazem Tahseen Saeed, the Prince of the Ezidis in Iraq and worldwide and President of the Supreme Ezidi Spiritual Council, has called on the international community and the United Nations to intervene urgently to save hundreds of members of the Ezidi faith, Kurds, and other components in the Syrian city of Aleppo, who are facing the imminent danger of genocide.
In a statement issued today, His Highness explained that the Supreme Spiritual Council has received numerous appeals from Ezidis trapped in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, where they are living under extremely difficult humanitarian conditions amid a siege, while others have been forced to flee toward unknown areas in search of safety.
Prince Hazem Tahseen added that the Council joins its voice with those of leaders and wise figures calling for an end to the bloodshed in Aleppo and for an accelerated halt to the fighting between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian authorities, urging that civilians be spared and protected from material and moral harm.
He also appealed to both sides to sit at the dialogue table and resolve their differences through peaceful means, stressing that violence will only lead to further suffering.
The Prince concluded his statement by recalling the tragedy endured by the Ezidis in Sinjar in 2014, warning against the repetition of the same tragedy against the Ezidis of Syria and the Kurds in general.
