The Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, Joshua Harris, affirmed that the Kurdistan Region is a strong and pivotal partner and ally of the United States in the region, praising the reforms being implemented by the Kurdistan Regional Government across various sectors.
Harris made the remarks during a meeting with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, attended by US Consul General Wendy Gresen, according to a statement released by the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The statement said the meeting discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations, reviewed the general situation in Iraq, and addressed ongoing negotiations among political forces aimed at forming the new federal government.
It added that both sides stressed the importance of respecting the federal and constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region and ensuring its financial rights and entitlements. They also emphasized the need for the federal government to continue disbursing the salaries of Kurdistan Region employees, particularly the salaries for November and December of last year.
