On Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026, Dr. Ali Tatar, Governor of Duhok, welcomed athlete Jilan Jaro, a daughter of Duhok Governorate and a champion in weightlifting.
During the meeting, attended by Mahwar Abdulaziz, Head of the KDP Branch 20 in Sheikhan, and coach Ali Hassan, discussions focused on the state of the sports movement in the governorate in general, women’s sports in particular, and the support provided by Duhok Governorate to various sports fields, as well as the achievements accomplished by women’s sports teams at the governorate level in recent years.
The Governor of Duhok expressed his thanks and appreciation to Ms. Jilan Jaro for achieving this distinguished championship, wishing her continued success, and reaffirmed the governorate’s full support for all sports and youth activities.
It is worth noting that Jilan Jaro participated in the open Duhok Governorate Weightlifting Championship (hip-thrust), which was held on December 19, 2025, in the city of Duhok, where she successfully lifted 200 kilograms.
Ezidi athlete Jilan Jaro, from Sheikhan district, won the gold medal in weightlifting.
