Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday welcomed a German delegation led by Jizza Andreas von Geir, State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry, in a meeting focused on deepening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany.

The delegation also included Daniel Krieber, Germany’s Ambassador to Iraq. During the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation across political, economic, and security sectors.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude for Germany’s continued support, highlighting the need to further develop collaboration in governance, economic projects, and regional security. The leaders also stressed the importance of international coordination to counter threats posed by ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

The talks covered the broader political situation in Iraq, including the ongoing presidential elections and the formation of federal and regional governments.

Germany has maintained a longstanding partnership with the Kurdistan Region, providing support for reconstruction and development, especially in areas affected by conflict and terrorism. German companies have invested in energy, infrastructure, and technology projects, contributing to industrial growth and job creation.

In addition, Germany has offered technical assistance in governance, public administration, and vocational training, while also supporting Peshmerga forces through training programs and humanitarian aid.

Cultural and educational exchanges, including scholarships and university partnerships, have further strengthened ties between the two sides. Over the years, these multifaceted engagements have fostered a resilient and trusted partnership, positioning Germany as a key ally in the Kurdistan Region’s efforts toward stability, growth, and security.
