The Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, Joshua Harris, affirmed that Ezidi issues will be among the top priorities of the American diplomatic mission in the coming period, describing the demands presented as reflecting the genuine needs of the community.

His remarks came during a meeting with Engineer Khalid Sido Azir, head of the Ezidi Parliamentary Bloc, who outlined a range of vital humanitarian and political issues concerning the Ezidi community in the Iraqi Parliament.

During the meeting, MP Khalid Sido called on the U.S. mission to strengthen its support and play a more active role in addressing several pressing issues, including:

  • Resolving the displacement crisis and ensuring fair compensation for those affected.
  • Securing the Ezidi community’s rightful representation and entitlements within the current federal government.
  • Accelerating the opening of mass graves and determining the fate of the remains and missing persons abducted by ISIS.
  • Rebuilding the district of Sinjar and shielding it from political disputes and conflicts.
  • Combating hate speech and the systematic targeting of religious and ethnic minorities.

For his part, Harris welcomed the concerns raised by the Ezidi representative, emphasizing that the U.S. Embassy attaches great importance to these issues and will work to include them among its key priorities in Iraq in the period ahead.
