The Ezidi religion is considered one of the oldest monotheistic faiths, with roots extending thousands of years into the past and intersecting with the civilizations of Sumer, Babylon, and ancient Egypt. This article highlights what it describes as a striking parallel between Ezidi sacred texts and the scientific theory of the Big Bang, focusing on the philosophy of the “explosion of the White Pearl” as a cosmological vision that predates modern discoveries in physics.
The Ezidi religion is regarded as one of the oldest monotheistic religions on Earth. According to the views and studies of some Orientalists, its origins date back more than four to five thousand years BCE. The religion is based on belief in one God, known as “Khoda,” meaning the Creator.
The story of Satan found in Abrahamic traditions does not exist in Ezidi religious texts, as the Ezidi doctrine of reincarnation is understood as the mechanism through which the Creator’s justice is manifested in this regard. God grants good to the believer and may test them with hardship, but the destiny of the soul through its successive reincarnations depends on the individual’s own deeds, rather than on the temptation of an evil being. Good deeds lead to a favorable reincarnation, while wrongdoing leads to a difficult one. Thus, evil is understood as a practical consequence and an expression of divine justice, rather than the result of the existence of a rebellious evil angel as found in Abrahamic traditions. In Ezidi mythology, there is no place for “embodied evil” within the divine realm.
Ezidi sacred texts, known as the Qewls (Sacred Hymns), are said to indicate that the roots of the religion extend back approximately 200,000 years or more, linking them to the emergence of humanity and the appearance of human beings on Earth. The religious texts likewise describe its roots as extending back to the emergence of humankind. Within Ezidi belief, “Azid, Azdan, Ezida” holds a sacred place, with prayers and hymns referring to it for thousands of years.
Ancient peoples, including the Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians of Mesopotamia, as well as the ancient Egyptians and Romans, revered figures such as “Ezida, Shamash, Ra…” portrayed as symbols of the light of the sun. This, according to the article, suggests a possible connection between their beliefs and Ezidi religious traditions, as well as similarities in certain religious concepts.
The Sumerians, credited with developing one of the world’s earliest writing systems more than 7,000 years ago, built one of the first civilizations known to humanity. Historical studies have uncovered Sumerian texts containing references to their religious beliefs and practices, which, according to the article, reveal remarkable similarities between their rituals and celebrations and those of the Ezidis—not only on a spiritual level but also linguistically, with numerous claimed connections between the Sumerian language and Ezidi Kurdish.
The article also examines the meaning of the word “Ezidi” in the Sumerian language, suggesting that it consists of three syllables:
- Ê: a prefix indicating uprightness
- Zi: purity and clarity
- Di: the path or way
The overall meaning is presented as “the upright” or “the pure.” When combined, these syllables form “Êzidi,” which the article states referred among the Sumerians to adherence to the righteous path, far from corruption and impurity.
The article further explores the cosmological vision within Ezidi philosophy and parapsychology, arguing that the Creator, who created existence and possesses the entirety of creation, is capable of creating the universe as He wills. This could be understood as suggesting that the universe was created randomly and without order. However, what we observe over millions of years, together with scientific experiments and discoveries, demonstrates that the universe operates with remarkable precision and order according to highly precise physical laws governing its entire state, from its initial to its final stages.
Stars and celestial bodies are not simply scattered randomly throughout space; they are organized into galaxies. Our Sun is one of hundreds of billions of stars in the Milky Way, a flattened disk approximately 100,000 light-years across. The Milky Way is one of tens of billions of galaxies in the observable universe, while our nearest large neighboring galaxy is approximately two million light-years away.
The Big Bang theory is a cosmological theory proposing that the universe originated from an extremely hot and dense state approximately 13.7 billion years ago. The theory emerged following observations by astronomer Edwin Hubble concerning the recession of galaxies from one another.
The article argues that Ezidi religious texts likewise describe the universe as emerging through the “explosion of the White Pearl,” as presented in the Ezidi religious text on creation and the universe, “Afarandina Kunyati” (The Creation of the Universe).
| Kurdish Text | English Translation |
|---|---|
| Yara bi dunya hebû tarî | O Lord, existence was dark |
| Têda nebûn zindarî | There was no living being within it |
| Êzdanî me dur deranî | God brought forth the Pearl |
| Mobet afitê navî | And placed the light (spirit) within it |
| Derez heybeta Êzdan hengnî | The Pearl shattered from the majesty of God |
And from it, the universe was formed.
The Ezidi mythology discussed in the article presents the idea of the “explosion of the White Pearl” as the origin of the universe. This concept is highlighted through Ezidi religious texts such as “Afarandina Kunyati” (The Creation of the Universe) and “Zabûni Maksor” (The Devoted Worshipper).
These verses describe a beginning in which the world was darkness and there was no mass, form, or life. According to these texts, the Creator, Êzdan, created a white pearl from Himself and placed light—or spirit—within it. The Pearl could not withstand the divine energy contained within the light, causing it to shatter, or explode, through the majesty of Êzdan the Creator and fill the cosmic void.
Thus, the universe was formed.
