Masrour Barzani, Deputy President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), issued a statement on Sunday, August 16, 2026, marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the birthday of national leader President Masoud Barzani.
In his statement, Masrour Barzani described the KDP as the party that founded the modern Kurdish political movement and shaped enduring chapters of Kurdish history, stressing that it remains a steadfast guarantee of the security, stability, and future of the Kurdistan Region.
Below is the full text of the statement: With the dawn of August 16, marking the birthday of our leader, our national figure, and my beloved father, President Barzani, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, I extend my highest congratulations and sincere wishes to His Excellency, to the families and relatives of our righteous martyrs and victims of the Anfal campaign, to the brave Peshmerga, and to all members, supporters, friends, and admirers of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, as well as to all the people of Kurdistan.
The anniversary of the founding of the oldest, largest, and strongest party in Kurdistan, established by the historic leader and spiritual father of our people, the Immortal Barzani, is one of the brightest and most significant occasions in the history of our people.
As an extension of this enduring legacy, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani, remains a faithful bearer of the sacred path of the Immortal Barzani. It continues with confidence to achieve great and historic accomplishments, remaining a source of pride for every devoted Kurdistani.
There is no doubt that the KDP and President Barzani together represent a source of hope and a focus of trust for the people of Kurdistan. They are a steadfast guarantee for safeguarding the security and stability of the Region, defending and strengthening its constitutional entity, and establishing a culture of peaceful coexistence among its diverse communities. They are also the architects of Kurdistan’s journey of construction, development, prosperity, and progress.
On this anniversary, we stand with reverence and respect, remembering with deep gratitude the founder of the party, the Immortal Barzani; the ever-present Kak Idris, who remains in our collective memory; and the leaders, all the freedom fighters, and the righteous martyrs of Kurdistan.
May August 16 continue to shine as a beacon of light throughout the ages.
