After 13 years, a village has been returned to the Yazidis

After 13 years, the Yazidi village of Kelhok, which was forcibly taken from its inhabitants, has been returned to its original residents. Located in the Bashir region, the village had seen its inhabitants emigrate to Europe over a decade ago. However, some Yazidi families have now returned to reclaim their homes and properties.

A Yazidi activist Nedim Erkesh from Northern Kurdistan informed Sema that in March of this year, the Batman court issued a ruling in favor of the return of Kelhok village to its original residents, and efforts are currently underway to implement this decision.

Erkesh further revealed that after the Yazidis left the village for Europe, some non-Yazidi families had settled there. Following 13 years of persistent efforts and legal demands, the case was brought to court. It is now known that several Yazidi families have returned and are beginning to rebuild their lives in their ancestral village, just as they did in the past.
