Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday expressed his condolences following the tragic crash of an Air India passenger jet in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad that claimed an unspecified number of lives.
“I am deeply saddened by the plane crash in Ahmedabad, India,” Barzani wrote in a post on X.
“At this difficult time, my thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the people of India and other nations affected by the crash,” he added.
The London-bound Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport with 242 people on board, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian, according to Indian aviation authorities.
Officials say the aircraft issued a mayday call before crashing just outside the airport perimeter. Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency teams deployed and an investigation underway to determine the cause of the disaster.
Leaders from around the world, including the United Kingdom and India, have shared messages of support and sympathy following the crash.
