In a post on X (formerly Twitter) marking the 56th anniversary of the agreement, Masrour Barzani said: “The March 11 Agreement was the historic result of the glorious September Revolution, carried out by our people under the leadership of our national leader Mustafa Barzani, to secure their legitimate rights.”
Defending the Constitutional Entity
The Prime Minister stressed that the principles on which that revolution and agreement were founded remain the core basis for current political action, adding: “We reaffirm our absolute commitment to defending the rights of all the people of Kurdistan and to using all our capabilities to preserve the constitutional integrity of the Kurdistan Region and protect it from any attempts to undermine its legal standing.”
Historical Significance
The March 11, 1970 Agreement was the first official document to recognize the national and administrative rights of the Kurds in Iraq. Observers note that the Prime Minister’s reaffirmation comes amid political and constitutional challenges facing the region, giving this anniversary added significance as a reminder of national principles and the protection of hard-won achievements built over decades of sacrifice.
