“The tragic fire at a hotel in Bolu, Turkey, which claimed numerous lives, is deeply saddening. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish the injured a swift and complete recovery,” President Barzani said.
A fire broke out early Tuesday in a 12-story hotel at a popular ski resort in northwestern Turkey, claiming the lives of at least 66 people—two of whom jumped from the building to escape the flames, according to officials.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that at least 51 others were injured in the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya, located in the Koroglu mountains of Bolu province, approximately 300 kilometers (185 miles) east of Istanbul. The blaze erupted just as a two-week winter school break began when hotels in the region are typically full.
