Largest Cultural Competition for Nearly 500 Yazidi Youth

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM, the High Committee of Lalish Cultural and Social Center in Duhok, in collaboration with the Khanke branch of the Lalish Center, organized the Lalish “Questions and Prizes” competition at Adian Basic School. The event, which saw the participation of nearly 500 youth, students, and some employees, was honored by the presence of Dr. Karwan Mohammed Sabir from the Office of His Excellency Masrour Barzani, Saeed Jirdo (President of the High Committee of Lalish Center), as well as several members of the High Committee, officials, and board members of the Khanke branch.

During his address, Saeed Jirdo emphasized the importance of such cultural initiatives, stating that the competition was designed to enhance the cultural knowledge of youth and students, strengthen the relationship between the Lalish Center and the youth sector, and broaden overall general knowledge. He remarked, “To elevate the cultural standards of our young generation and reinforce our ties with the youth sector, we have launched the Lalish ‘Questions and Prizes’ competition, which will be conducted across all Yazidi regions.”

The competition featured 50 questions covering diverse topics including history, religion, national affairs, sports, and general knowledge. Participants received the questions under the supervision of members of the High Committee of Lalish Center. This event marked the inaugural occasion for such an engaging competition in the Khanke district, generating significant enthusiasm among the participants, who expressed their hope for the continuation of similar activities in the future.

The Lalish “Questions and Prizes” competition is set to be hosted throughout all Yazidi regions, with the overarching aim of fostering a vibrant cultural movement and enhancing the cultural acumen of students and youth alike.
