On Saturday, February 22, 2025, His Holiness Baba Sheikh, Sheikh Ali Sheikh Elias, and his accompanying delegation participated in the ceremony of burying the remains of 32 victims of the Yazidi genocide at the cemetery in the village of Kojo, located south of Mount Shingal.

The ceremony was attended by numerous figures, including government officials, representatives of international organizations, local dignitaries, and members of the community, as well as civil society organizations, especially the families of the victims.

These remains belong to Yazidis who were captured by the ISIS terrorist organization at the start of the genocide on August 3, 2014, before being executed later that same month. Today, the remains were laid to rest in a solemn ceremony befitting their dignity. The proceedings included the recitation of religious texts and special prayers, along with speeches emphasizing the importance of preserving the memory of the victims, striving for justice, and international recognition of the genocide endured by the Yazidis.

This day marks a historical milestone in the Yazidis’ struggle to end oppression, gain recognition of their rights, and achieve justice for those responsible for these atrocities against innocent civilians.
