Statement from the Members of the Nineveh Provincial Council who voted for the dismissal of the Council President
Erivan Mahdi – Member of the Nineveh Provincial Council
It is unfortunate that we find ourselves in this situation, which was not our first choice, but our oversight duty and responsibility to the people of Nineveh compelled us to make this decision. We had hoped that the President of the Council would attend the interrogation session and defend himself before the Council with transparency and responsibility. However, he chose to disregard this, despite being inside the council building, neglecting the oversight institution and dismissing the request for the interrogation, which forced us to proceed with the necessary constitutional and legal procedures.
We also regret the attempts by some members to create a disturbance within the council in an attempt to disrupt the session and influence the voting process. However, the voice of truth prevailed, and we were able to implement the true will to preserve the dignity of the Council and its oversight role, preventing any violations or disregard for the official institutions that represent the will of the people of Nineveh.
In voting to dismiss the Council President, we affirm that this decision was not directed against an individual, but rather a principled stance to preserve the integrity of institutional work. We also renew our full commitment to exercising our oversight role responsibly and call on all members to cooperate in serving the province and enhancing the trust of citizens in their elected institutions.
