Khalid Saido, Representative of the Ezidi Quota in the Iraqi Council of Representatives and head of the Ezidi parliamentary bloc, said in an interview with Sema TV that Ezidis make up 12 percent of Nineveh Governorate’s overall population and 80 percent of the population of Sinjar District.
Sido noted that most service and security departments in the area are not headed by Ezidis. He stressed the need to ensure Ezidis receive their rightful share of administrative positions, alongside fair representation for other communities in Sinjar. He also emphasized the importance of preserving the region’s religious and cultural diversity and strengthening its role.
According to Sido, Ezidis currently hold only around four administrative positions, while other communities hold approximately 25.
Saido also said efforts are underway to secure Ezidi representation in Baaj District and Qayrawan Subdistrict, noting that there are currently no Ezidi directors of government departments in central Baaj or administrators in Qayrawan.
He stressed that the participation of all communities in administrative, service, and security positions would strengthen public confidence and highlight the importance of partnership in rebuilding areas devastated by ISIS.
“Saido added that Sinjar does not belong to any one group or side; it belongs to everyone. He called for avoiding sectarian rhetoric aimed at generating engagement and likes, and instead urged genuine competition focused on serving and rebuilding Sinjar.
