President Masoud Barzani congratulated Duhok and Zakho football clubs after they secured first and second place in the 32nd edition of the Iraq FA Cup.
In his message, President Barzani said: “I extend my warmest congratulations to the Duhok and Zakho teams on this remarkable achievement of reaching the Iraq Cup final.”
He added that this accomplishment is a source of pride and success for Kurdistan.
Duhok claimed the Iraq Cup title for the first time in its history, defeating Zakho in a penalty shootout in the final match held Friday evening at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad.
The match ended in a goalless draw in regular and extra time before heading to penalties, where Duhok triumphed 5–3.
Zakho and Duhok reached the final after defeating last season’s champion Al-Shorta and runner-up Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, respectively.
While this marks Duhok’s first Iraq Cup title, Al-Zawraa remains the most successful club in the competition’s history with 16 titles.
