On Monday, September 1, 2025, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, directed the appointment of 775 medical graduates from universities across the Region.
The decision states:
“Graduates of medical colleges from the universities of Sulaimani, Erbil, Duhok, Zakho, Koya, Garmian, and the University of Kurdistan — totaling 775 graduates from the academic year 2023–2024 — will be appointed within the staff of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Health. They will receive their rightful titles, salaries, and allowances from the Region’s local revenues.”
This decision comes in response to the urgent need for resident medical staff in healthcare centers across the Kurdistan Region.
Last September, the Prime Minister emphasized the pressing need for more reforms and advancements in the healthcare sector. He stated that the government is working diligently to achieve this goal, including by consulting international experts to improve healthcare services and the quality of medicine, aiming to provide the best possible care for citizens.
He highlighted the importance of developing both the public and private health sectors in parallel, with a particular focus on improving the quality of services in public hospitals. He noted that pilot projects have already begun to upgrade several hospitals, such as Rozhawa Hospital in Erbil.
The Prime Minister also stressed the KRG’s commitment to enhancing the quality of hospitals and healthcare facilities, noting that the Region possesses exceptional medical and scientific talent, including a team of capable doctors ready to provide top-tier care.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to doing everything possible to support patients throughout their treatment journey.
