The Baba Sheikh, the highest spiritual authority in the Ezidi religion, has issued an official statement strongly condemning the actions of a member of the Ezidi community in Russia, currently residing in Germany, after he appeared in a video making offensive remarks toward Prince Hazim Tahsin Beg, the Prince of the Ezidis in Iraq and the world.
Sheikh Ali Sheikh Elias, the Baba Sheikh, affirmed in the statement issued today (Tuesday) that such behavior does not reflect the values and ethics of the Ezidi community, nor the principles upon which the Ezidi faith was founded—principles that emphasize respect for others and reverence for religious figures, especially those of the Ezidi religion.
He noted that Prince Hazim Tahsin Beg is one of the most prominent religious and social figures among the Ezidis, and that any offense against him is an unacceptable transgression that undermines the dignity of the entire community and threatens its historical and spiritual standing.
The Baba Sheikh called on Ezidis in Iraq and the diaspora to uphold values of respect and refrain from offensive behavior regardless of disagreements. He emphasized that constructive dialogue and mutual respect are the true foundations of coexistence.
He stressed the importance of freedom of expression within the boundaries of ethics and responsibility and firmly rejected any discourse that includes insults or belittling of religious symbols. He also urged self-restraint and encouraged Ezidis to represent their values with dignity.
In conclusion, the Baba Sheikh reaffirmed his full support for Prince Hazim Tahsin Beg and underlined the importance of preserving the unity of the Ezidi community and promoting a culture of respect and dialogue worthy of the Ezidi religion’s history and identity.
