A New Book Released: “The Writings of Dawood Khattari and the Role of Literature in Shaping Ezidi Identity” by Fawaz Hadi Ali
The book has been published in Arabic, along with its original version in English.
According to the author, this academic work is the result of deep research and effort, and he hopes it will contribute to enriching studies related to literature and Ezidi identity.
From the book’s introduction on the cover: “This research project explores the significance of Khattari’s writings in shaping Ezidi identity. The study examines how Ezidi literature, as reflected in selected works of Khattari, portrays individual experiences and collective Ezidi identity. Through an analysis of some of his works, which involve various themes and focus on key aspects that represent the foundations of Ezidi heritage and tradition on multiple levels—such as the Lalish Temple, Ezidi religious rituals, stories and songs from the Sheikhan region, and the tale of Mam and Zin—this research investigates how the author utilizes language and imagery through historical narrative to express the uniqueness of Ezidi culture. It also sheds light on the historical challenges faced by the Ezidi people in their struggle to preserve their identity and existence, which is a continuation of a dark past filled with calamities and genocides.”
