On Monday, September 22, 2025, the first phase of opening the mass graves in the berms of the Siba Sheikh Khidr complex began. These graves contain the remains of a large number of Ezidi martyrs who gave their lives in defense of their identity and homeland.
These martyrs sacrificed themselves for Sinjar, its mountains, and its people. Their remains bear witness to the horrific violations the Ezidis faced in Sinjar.
These heroes stood against the terrorist organization ISIS for hours during their invasion of Sinjar on August 3, 2014, in an attempt to rescue as many families as possible from the hell of ISIS.
According to those following Ezidi affairs in Sinjar, a large number of Ezidi remains are present in these graves. Three more mass graves have been discovered in Siba Sheikh Khidr, and the number may increase further.
