In a historic visit to the sacred Lalesh Temple, Mr. Faraj Khairy Beg, representing His Highness the Prince, His Holiness Baba Chawish, and Mr. Salem Baba Sheik, welcomed Canadian Ambassador Mr. Christopher Bim and Ms. Tammy Amis. During the visit, the Ambassador expressed his happiness at visiting the sacred temple and showed a keen interest in learning more about the Yazidi faith and their current situation.
This marks the Ambassador’s first visit since taking office two months ago. He emphasized that the Yazidi cause is a top priority for the Canadian government and praised Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its consistent support for the Yazidi people. He also noted that Canada is one of the countries that has officially recognized the atrocities committed against the Yazidis in Sinjar as genocide.
During the visit, the Yazidi representatives conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Prince to the Ambassador and stressed the importance of Canada continuing to support the issue of Sinjar, including the dignified return of displaced people, compensation, justice, and the return of abducted individuals. They also emphasized the need for Canada to continue supporting Yazidis in Syria and protecting them from any violations of their rights.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Yazidi representatives expressed their heartfelt thanks to the Ambassador and his delegation for Canada’s ongoing support of the Yazidi cause and its recognition of the Yazidi genocide, on behalf of His Highness the Prince and the entire Yazidi community.
