The Yazidi Community Association has been established in the city of Toowoomba, Australia, and held its first meeting. On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Salem Hussein, one of the members of the association, shared with Soma that the association was founded by a group of Yazidi youth. During their first meeting, they discussed several issues related to the Yazidi community’s situation.

Hussein emphasized that the association’s goal is to serve the Yazidi language and culture, preserve traditions and customs, and introduce the Yazidi community to other groups.

He also mentioned that as part of their future steps, the association plans to strengthen relationships with the government and organizations to better serve their community.

After the Yazidi genocide on August 3, 2014, at the hands of ISIS, more than 2,000 Yazidis migrated to Australia, where they continue to rebuild their lives.
