The campaign began after footage showed a Damascus-affiliated militant holding up the braid of a deceased Kurdish female fighter, sparking outrage. Women across the globe shared videos of themselves braiding their hair in solidarity and to condemn the act.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported ongoing clashes and ceasefire violations in Rojava, including attacks in Hasakah, Kobani, Sarrin, and other Kurdish-held areas. Despite repeated artillery and ground assaults by Damascus-affiliated forces, the SDF reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire and called on the international community to monitor violations and protect civilians.
The braiding campaign has become a symbolic gesture of dignity, remembrance, and resistance amid continuing violence in northern and eastern Syria.
