Kurdish Lawmakers Call for Investigation into Recent Attacks on the Kurdistan Region

Sema

Members of the Kurdish blocs in the Iraqi Parliament have called for the formation of a special parliamentary committee to investigate and uncover the circumstances surrounding the repeated attacks targeting areas and vital facilities in the Kurdistan Region. The lawmakers said the goal is to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

Serious Escalation and Unjustified Attacks

During a joint press conference, the lawmakers stated that the Kurdistan Region has consistently adhered to a policy of distancing itself from regional tensions and has sought, through diplomatic channels, to strengthen peace and stability in Iraq and the wider region.

They added that the region has recently been subjected to a series of “unjustified attacks” carried out by armed groups operating outside the law, noting that the frequency and intensity of these assaults have significantly escalated in recent times.

Concerns Over Launch Locations

The lawmakers also revealed worrying security information, indicating that available data and evidence suggest that many of these attacks were launched from areas near the deployment sites of federal military and security forces.

According to their statement:
“Information and facts show that most of these attacks were carried out from areas close to federal military and security positions, raising serious questions about the nature of these undisciplined groups and their ability to operate outside the authority of the state.”

Call for the Rule of Law

At the conclusion of the press conference, the lawmakers stressed the need for the federal government to exercise its authority to control illegal weapons and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law, in order to preserve the security of the Kurdistan Region and uphold the sovereignty of the Iraqi state.
