On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of his joining the ranks of the Peshmerga forces, which falls on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, President shared an emotional message through his official account on the “X” platform, recalling the great sacrifices made by these forces throughout the Kurdish people’s struggle.
Text of President Barzani’s message:
“Salute to the pure souls of the Peshmerga martyrs, whose sacred blood became the fuel of freedom and dignity for their people, and who sacrificed their lives on this path.
Salute and deepest respect to all the heroes who chose the path of the Peshmerga and carry this sacred duty on their shoulders. I kiss the forehead of each and every one of them.
The Peshmerga are the highest symbol of pride and honor.”
These words from President Barzani reaffirm the exceptional place the Peshmerga forces hold in the conscience of the Kurdish people, as a symbol of steadfastness and the defense of national and ethnic rights.
