Sema TV Condemns Incitement and Threats Against Ezidis, Calls for Full Accountability

Sema

Sema TV strongly condemns the shocking and inflammatory statements contained in a video circulating on social media, reportedly made by a religious figure from Eastern Kurdistan, which included direct threats of murder and offensive remarks targeting the Ezidi community and its representatives.

Such statements, which incite hatred and violence on religious grounds, constitute a serious threat to the values of coexistence and social peace. They cannot be dismissed as merely a personal expression of opinion, particularly given the severe consequences such rhetoric may have in light of the genocide, crimes, and violations suffered by the Ezidi community, whose impact continues to be felt today.

At a time when Ezidis are working to heal their wounds and rebuild their security and stability, issuing death threats, inciting hostility against them, and insulting their religious figures and representatives is extremely dangerous and categorically unacceptable.

Sema TV emphasizes that such statements do not represent Muslims as a whole, nor do they reflect the positions of religious scholars and clerics in the Kurdistan Region, many of whom have played an important role in promoting coexistence, mutual respect, and fraternity among the region’s diverse communities.

Accordingly, we call on the Kurdistan Regional Government to take the necessary legal measures, in coordination with the Iranian Consulate and relevant authorities, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and hold the individual responsible for these statements accountable in accordance with the law, in order to prevent the recurrence of such inciting rhetoric.

We also reaffirm that Kurdistan must remain a space for coexistence and peace, and that any discourse promoting hatred or violence, or targeting a religious component of society, must be met with legal and societal accountability.
