Between Tradition and Modernity: Two Ezidi Sisters Revive Folkloric Fashion in the Heart of Europe

In the heart of Germany—where cultures intersect and global fashion trends converge—two sisters, Yasmin Karim Sheikh Shero and Dilveen Karim Sheikh Shero, originally from the town of Baadre in Kurdistan, are on a heartfelt mission: to revive and reinterpret traditional Kurdish attire.

With a creative and feminine touch, they aim to preserve the beauty and authenticity of these garments while introducing them to a broader audience—both Kurdish and non-Kurdish.

Yasmin, who has lived in Germany for years and works in the beauty industry, explains:

“I’ve always had a passion for beauty in all its forms. But my sister Dilveen’s dedication to fashion design inspired me to join her in this dream—especially when we realized that Kurdish folkloric clothing is at risk of disappearing in today’s fast-paced fashion world.”

Together, the sisters launched a unique project that blends traditional Kurdish elements with modern design. Their goal is to create dresses that resonate with today’s young women, while maintaining the deep-rooted spirit of Kurdish heritage.

Yasmin adds:

“We’re not only reimagining the designs—we’re also preserving original versions of traditional dresses, showcasing them as they were once worn by our grandmothers. It’s our way of safeguarding this heritage from fading into oblivion.”

They promote and market their designs primarily through social media, working tirelessly to deliver ready-to-wear Kurdish dresses to clients across Germany and neighboring countries, ensuring both high quality and fast delivery.

Yet, their project goes far beyond business. It carries a cultural and social message—one aimed at reinforcing Kurdish identity in the diaspora and honoring the rich symbolism and meaning woven into every thread of traditional Kurdish clothing.
