President Barzani: Shared History of Hardship Strengthens Kurdistan–Kuwait Ties

President Masoud Barzani received Kuwait’s Ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Mohammad Zaman, in Pirmam. During the meeting, both sides highlighted the common suffering endured under the former Iraqi regime and stressed the importance of further enhancing relations between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait. The discussion also underscored the need to expand cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties in the coming period.

President Masoud Barzani on Thursday received the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Mohammad Zaman, at his office in Pirmam.

According to a statement from the Barzani Headquarters, the meeting was also attended by Othman Dawood, Kuwait’s Consul General in Erbil. The Kuwaiti Ambassador expressed his pleasure at meeting President Barzani and conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait.

The ambassador highlighted the strong ties and brotherly relationship between the people of Kuwait and the people of Kurdistan, while commending the Kurdish people’s long struggle and sacrifices in pursuit of freedom.

President Barzani, in turn, extended his warm greetings to the Emir and the people of Kuwait. He also underscored the shared suffering experienced by both nations under the former Iraqi regime, stressing the importance of strengthening brotherhood and further developing bilateral relations.

The meeting also included discussions on the broader regional situation, ongoing challenges, and threats to stability. In addition, both sides exchanged views on the political process in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
