Christians around the world, including those in Kurdistan, celebrated Easter Sunday today, April 20, 2025. Easter is one of the most important holidays for Christians, symbolizing the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead three days after his crucifixion, according to Christian belief.

Thousands of Christians in the Kurdistan Region flocked to churches to attend Easter Mass. The holiday represents and embodies the triumph of life over death and redemption from sin. One of the distinctive traditions of this celebration is the coloring of eggs, which symbolizes new life and resurrection. Families, especially children, take part in decorating eggs with bright colors, a festive tradition that reflects joy and the victory over death.

Christian-majority cities and villages also witness social events and family visits, as families exchange greetings and share special meals after the long period of fasting during Lent.

The Christian season of joy continues for 50 days after Easter, culminating in the Feast of Pentecost, during a period known as the “Holy Fifty Days.”

On this occasion, Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of coexistence, brotherhood, and harmony among all religious and ethnic communities in the Kurdistan Region, stating that “coexistence and tolerance are a great source of pride for the people of Kurdistan, and they must be preserved and enriched.”

Meanwhile, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his congratulations to Christians on this occasion, saying, “We hope this blessed occasion brings peace and stability, and strengthens the values of coexistence, tolerance, and affection among all components of the people of Kurdistan.”
