On February 9, 2025, a PhD dissertation titled “Mechanisms of Reparations in Financial Legislation: A Comparative Study” was defended at the College of Law, University of Mosul. The event was attended by Mr. Abdul Qader Al-Dakhil, Governor of Nineveh, Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, Dr. Wissam Neamat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law, and several professors from the university.
Dr. Saeed Khadida Qolo, 34 years old, speaking about his PhD dissertation in public law, said:
“I am the first Yazidi to earn a PhD in law from the University of Mosul and the first student specializing in this field. The dissertation is a new study aimed at continuing the fight to defend the rights of victims, especially Yazidis.”
Dr. Qolo explained that “the goal of choosing this topic is to assist victims and convey the tragedy experienced by the Yazidi community, particularly by exploring solutions to deliver justice and ensure victims have access to their rights.”
He also highlighted that “the grant initiated by Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for Yazidi survivors is part of reparations aimed at rehabilitating survivors and facilitating their reintegration into society. This aspect is also discussed in my dissertation.”
Background:
Saeed Khadida Qolo, a displaced person living in Duhok for the past ten years, has worked with international organizations supporting displaced Yazidis and survivors of ISIS captivity. He completed his primary, middle, and high school education in Khanasor, north of Mount Sinjar. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Duhok, his master’s degree in Erbil, and his PhD from the University of Mosul.
