After a long wait and continuous efforts to secure their rightful rights, the decision to allocate residential land plots to the families of Ezidi martyrs has officially come into effect.
Rifaat Sumo, Assistant Governor of Nineveh for Administrative Affairs, stated on Wednesday, March 18, 2026:
“The Governor of Nineveh, Abdul Qader Al-Dakhil, has officially approved granting residential land plots to the families of 24 Ezidi martyrs who were killed by terrorism in 2007.”
This decision comes nearly 19 years after that painful tragedy. The Assistant Governor noted that this represents a fundamental right for these families, which had been delayed for years, but has now been implemented thanks to ongoing efforts, as a gesture of loyalty to the blood of those martyrs who fell victim to a cowardly terrorist act.
In April 2007, militants from the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda blocked the road of a bus transporting 24 Ezidi workers from the Mosul textile factory to the areas of Bashiqa and Bahzani, where they brutally killed them all. This major crime has remained a deep wound in the hearts of the Ezidi community.
