Mayan Khairy Beg, the First Lady of the Yazidis, calls for the protection of Yazidis in Western Kurdistan and says: “We don’t want another genocide committed against them.”
According to reports, around five thousand Yazidis were living in the Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods in Aleppo, and many have now been displaced to protect their lives.
In a statement to Sama, Mayan Khairy Beg said: “We urge the Kurdistan Regional Government, Iraq, and the international community to prevent another genocide like those in Afrin and Sinjar from occurring in Aleppo, and to protect women and girls in particular.”
She added: “We are closely monitoring the situation of the Yazidis, especially in Aleppo, Syria, and relevant parties have been informed about their plight.”
Since the attack by Turkish-backed armed groups on Aleppo, hundreds of Yazidi families have been displaced. Some remain in their original locations, while others have returned to the eastern Euphrates and Afrin.
