Imad Naif, a dedicated Ezidi athlete originally from the Zurafa complex in Shingal and born in 1995, has made an inspiring mark on the world of powerlifting in the Kurdistan Region.
Displaced by conflict in 2014, Imad has been living in the Khanke sub-district of Duhok Province. Despite the challenges of displacement, he turned to sports—specifically bodybuilding and powerlifting—as a source of strength and purpose. His journey in fitness began in 2015, and just a year later, he opened his own gym in Khanke, providing a space for others in his community to train and grow.
Over the years, Imad has participated in numerous competitions across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, earning around ten first-place titles in powerlifting. His achievements extend beyond competing—he is also a certified coach and referee, having officiated in both local and international powerlifting events, including a major international championship held in Iraq.
On July 18, 2025, Imad achieved a major milestone by securing first place in the Kurdistan Region Powerlifting Championship – Bench Press Classic, in the 66 kg advanced category—despite suffering from an injury.
His story is not only one of athletic excellence but also of resilience, leadership, and dedication to his community and sport.
