U.S. envoy Tom Barrack is currently meeting with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil. The discussions are focused on a range of key political and security issues, as both sides review recent developments and matters of mutual interest.
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Tom Barrack, the U.S. Presidential Special Envoy for Iraq and Syria, in Erbil on Tuesday for discussions focused on regional security, political developments, and coordination between key stakeholders.
The meeting addressed several important security and political issues, including ongoing efforts to strengthen stability in Iraq and the wider region.
Following his talks with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Barrack is expected to meet separately with President Masoud Barzani and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani as part of his official visit to the Kurdistan Region.
The visit comes a day after the U.S. envoy traveled to Baghdad, where he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi to discuss matters of mutual concern.
Barrack’s trip marks his first official visit to Erbil since assuming his role as Special Envoy for Iraq and Syria. Discussions are expected to focus on a range of issues affecting Iraq, particularly relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in Baghdad.
The meetings also follow recent remarks by President Nechirvan Barzani, who expressed strong support for the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing its implementation as an important step toward reducing tensions and promoting peace and stability across the region.
Officials say the diplomatic engagements are aimed at enhancing cooperation, resolving outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, and advancing efforts to ensure long-term stability through dialogue and partnership.
The meeting between Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Special Envoy Tom Barrack remains ongoing.
