A member of the Syrian Yazidi Council has indicated that, after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, some other parties have emerged, claiming to represent the Yazidis, but are working for their own interests.
On Saturday, January 18, 2025, Kandal Ramo, a member of the Syrian Yazidi Council, told Sama: “The situation in Syria is still complex. In order to deliver Yazidi demands, a delegation from the council visited Damascus in recent days and met with several prominent leaders of the Syrian Liberation Authority, holding positive meetings.”
He emphasized that, after the fall of Assad’s regime and the rise of Ahmed Shari’s authority, the Syrian Yazidi Council has been the only organization politically working to represent Yazidi demands and has been at the forefront of serving the Yazidi community.
He also stated, “Now, some other Yazidi parties have emerged, and they see the current situation in Syria as an opportunity. They are only working for their own interests and do not serve the Yazidis.”
The hopes and demands of the Yazidis are that their rights be protected in Syria’s new constitution, and that those responsible for violations against Yazidis be held accountable.
