MP Vian Dakhil, a member of the Iraqi Parliament from the Kurdistan Democratic Party and a member of the Integrity Committee, met with the U.S. Embassy’s Special Advisor for Minority and Human Rights Affairs, Ms. Danette Sullivan. During the meeting, they discussed current political issues, focusing on the displaced persons issue, the situation in Sinjar, and the challenges facing minorities.

During the meeting, MP Vian Dakhil presented the difficult humanitarian situation faced by displaced persons and survivors of ISIS, in addition to the issue of the kidnapped women. She emphasized the need for intensified international and local efforts to find sustainable solutions that ensure their voluntary and safe return to their original areas, especially in Sinjar, which continues to suffer from the lack of security and public services.

The MP also stressed the importance of the international community’s role in supporting reconstruction efforts, establishing stability in the affected areas, and ensuring the rights of minorities who have suffered persecution in recent years. She pointed out that the situation in Sinjar requires greater international and local coordination, away from political disputes, to ensure the return of normal life to the region and its residents.

For her part, the U.S. Embassy’s Special Advisor for Minority and Human Rights Affairs expressed her country’s interest in the humanitarian file in Iraq and its readiness to support efforts aimed at improving the conditions of displaced persons and protecting the rights of minorities, praising the role of MP Vian Dakhil in this regard.

This meeting is part of the ongoing efforts by MP Vian Dakhil to follow up on the situation of displaced persons and minorities in Iraq and work towards achieving fair and lasting solutions that guarantee the rights of all citizens to live in dignity and safety.
