Masoud Barzani: Attacks on the Kurdistan Region Are a Blatant Aggression; the “Coordination Framework” Must Put an End to Outlaw Groups
On Sunday, Masoud Barzani addressed a message to public opinion, warning about the continued attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region. He stressed that “patience has limits” and called on the Iraqi government and political forces—especially the Coordination Framework—to take a firm stance to stop these assaults.
A Culture of Peace and Defense of Rights
Barzani began his message by emphasizing that the people of the Kurdistan Region have never been advocates of war, but have always sought peace and coexistence. However, he noted that if war is imposed on them, they have always defended themselves and their legitimate rights. He said this principle stems from the deep faith and rich culture of the Kurdish people, who aspire to security and stability.
Criticism of “Resistance” Groups
Barzani expressed deep concern about the growing tensions in the region, saying he was surprised that certain groups and actors—under the name of “resistance” and using what he described as weak pretexts and slogans—have targeted civilian sites, economic infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region, as well as bases and headquarters of the Peshmerga Forces. He described these acts as a clear attempt to provoke war and a blatant violation of citizens’ rights and the region’s security and stability.
Warning Message and Call for Intervention
In a firm tone, Barzani said: “Everyone must clearly understand that patience has limits. The Peshmerga have never accepted injustice or oppression from any side, and these provocations and attempts to undermine the region’s stability and the security of its citizens cannot and must not continue.”
He also issued a direct call to the Iraqi government, the Council of Representatives of Iraq, and political forces—particularly the Coordination Framework—to intervene seriously and put an end to these attacks, warning that the continuation of this hostile approach will have serious consequences.
Barzani concluded his message by offering condolences to the families of the martyrs who lost their lives in what he described as unjustified attacks. He reassured the people of the Kurdistan Region that efforts will continue to keep the region away from wars and tragedies, protect the security and lives of citizens, and affirmed that “victory will be on the side of the people of Kurdistan.”
