Today, Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a special ceremony was held at the Erbil Citadel, attended by Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, to celebrate Kurdistan Flag Day.
During the ceremony, which saw the participation of a distinguished group of representatives from the region’s religious and national components, the Prime Minister delivered a speech congratulating the people on Flag Day. He emphasized that the flag of Kurdistan is a symbol of the people of Kurdistan, a testament to steadfastness and immense, unending sacrifices. He described it as a symbol of peace, reconstruction, and peaceful coexistence, as well as an embodiment of the continuity of life and a source of strength and vitality.
The Prime Minister stressed that this flag, throughout history since its inception to the present day, has often been the final shroud covering the bodies of thousands of martyrs in Kurdistan. To keep this flag flying high, thousands of fighters sacrificed their lives—enduring the darkness of prisons, walking toward the gallows, or attaining martyrdom on mountain peaks and across the plains. Therefore, he affirmed, it is the duty of all to keep this flag raised high and fluttering.
He concluded his speech by noting that the caravan of construction continues under the shadow of this sacred flag, moving toward a Kurdistan flourishing in security, reconstruction, and stability, through united efforts—so that this flag may remain high, waving with pride and dignity forever.
