Masrour Barzani commemorated today the 38th anniversary of the Halabja chemical attack and the genocide committed against the city of Halabja, stressing that the tragedy will remain a “deep scar” in the memory and history of the Kurdish people and a living testament to injustice and tyranny.

In an official statement, the Prime Minister said the attack on Halabja was a malicious attempt to uproot and exterminate the people of Kurdistan and erase their identity and existence. He emphasized that the immense sacrifices and the pure blood of the martyrs paved the way for the achievements and gains that the Kurdistan Region enjoys today, placing a responsibility on everyone to protect and defend them.

In the same context, Barzani addressed a direct message to the federal government in Baghdad, reiterating the need to fulfill its moral, legal, and constitutional obligations toward the victims. He called on Baghdad to take serious steps to ensure justice for the families of the martyrs of Halabja and the victims of the Al‑Anfal campaign, as well as all victims of the crimes of the former regime, by providing fair and comprehensive compensation commensurate with their suffering and sacrifices.

Barzani concluded his statement by paying tribute to the pure souls of the martyrs of Halabja and all martyrs of Kurdistan, stressing that this crime must remain alive in the memory of future generations and in the conscience of the international community to ensure that such tragedies are never repeated.
